Expecting mothers can start to bond with their infants and provide appropriate sensory stimulation during pregnancy; the fetus begins hearing sounds during the second trimester and brain development is rapidly taking place during the third trimester of pregnancy. Furthermore, infants’ first two years of life is a critical time for learning. The University of Alabama is expanding the mission of Early Notes Network by providing information on 1) fetal and infant learning, 2) evidence-based sensory stimulation protocols, and 3) and interventions that provide bonding opportunities during pregnancy and the first two years of life.
